“In-Depth Intensive” Livestream via Zoom • August 2026
This three-week intensive offers a progressive, in-depth immersion into the Iyengar Yoga practice — moving from the intelligent use of props, through the principles of sequencing, to the core qualities that animate asana from the inside out.
Week 1 — Intelligent Use of Props: Illuminating the Actions of Asana
How deeply have you explored what the props can illuminate? Props are not shortcuts — they are precision tools. When used with skillfulness and depth of understanding, they have the capacity to tease out the actions required in a pose and heighten awareness in ways that might otherwise take years to develop. This week works through the five foundational props of Iyengar practice — belts, bricks, blankets, bolsters, and chairs — examining how each one illuminates the actions of asana and deepens understanding of the poses themselves. The result is a practice that is more informed, more precise, and more accessible.
Week 2 — Sequencing to Awaken the Qualities of Asana
What if the order in which you practice unlocks qualities the poses alone cannot? Sequencing is a critical element of practice. A thoughtful sequence prepares, guides, and recuperates in a way that directly affects what the body can access and experience — from which area of the body to awaken first, to the sequential breakdown of an individual pose, to how poses are repeated, to the overarching arc of which category to start with — all of which determines how the fullest potential of the work is drawn out. This week explores how deliberate sequencing awakens specific qualities: strength through standing poses, mobility through seated work and forward extensions, stability through inversions, connection through twists and balancings, and integration through backward extensions. Understanding why poses are ordered as they are changes how you practice — and what you receive from it.
Week 3 — Delving into the Core Qualities of Yoga: Actions & Directions to Cultivate Vitality
Why do some poses feel integrated and infused with vitality while others feel effortful and flat? When poses are well integrated, a quality of harmony takes root — and that harmony has a source. It lies in the fundamental directions that animate every asana: rooting down, extending up, expanding out, connecting, and involuting. When these directions come into balance, the pose finds a harmonious resonance — awareness spreads within and without, and the practice takes on a quality that carries well beyond the mat. The work of the previous two weeks culminates here — developing the actions and sensitivity needed to bring these fundamental directions to life in every pose.
